We have had the pleasure of working with Dez and her Nyumbar team for many years at Annandale North Public School, particularly during our Reconciliation activities. Their dedication to delivering authentic and meaningful Aboriginal education workshops has been invaluable to our school community.
Dez and her team have established a wonderful rapport with our students, staff, and families, fostering strong, respectful, and ongoing relationships. Their workshops are always exceptionally well organised and engaging, capturing students’ interest and enthusiasm. Our students consistently look forward to participating, gaining valuable insights and appreciation for Aboriginal culture and history.
An added highlight has been the many beautiful artworks collaboratively created with the students, which now proudly enrich our school environment and serve as a lasting testament to the learning and connections developed. These artworks have become a cherished part of our community’s cultural expression.
We greatly value the professionalism, passion, and dedication that Dez and the Nyumbar team bring to creating meaningful educational experiences for our students and community.
Stage 2 Teacher, Annandale North Public School
I greatly value the professionalism, passion, and dedication of Nyumbar Aboriginal Education. The program was incredibly engaging and age-appropriate. The children learnt so much without ever feeling overwhelmed, and the facilitators were exceptional—communicating clearly and creating a positive, welcoming learning environment. We couldn’t identify anything that needed improving. A special shout-out to the wonderful facilitator who delivered the program at St Columba’s, Leichhardt. Thank you for such a meaningful and memorable experience!

It was wonderful to see the program adjusted to meet the needs of the different age groups. All students were engaged and excited.
Nyumbar is such an amazing experience that the students were able to participate in. They were not only shown the artefacts but the also had the chance to see them close up. The facilitators are amazing and keep the students engaged throughout the duration of the session. All students and staff took away valuable knowledge of Aboriginal culture . I would highly recommend this program to all schools.
Teacher, Harrington Park Public School
Nyumbar Aboriginal Education provided our students with four cultural immersion sessions over a period of four weeks. We were able to discuss and plan with Dez and Isaac exactly what we wanted to achieve from their program. Dez and Isaac were able to tailor their sessions to cater for the unique needs of our students. Even though they had not visited a school with such a high level of disability, they took it in their stride and each session was amazing for both the students and the staff. Their calmness and interactions with each of the groups across the sessions assisted in such a strong engagement and learning from everyone involved. We are proudly displaying our artwork that we all contributed in making and it has been a wonderful reminder of Nyumbar Aboriginal Education time with us each day.
The staff are very keen for them to return every year as part of our school calendar of events. We look forward to working with Nyumbar Aboriginal Education on a mural for our school over the coming months.
Relieving Principal, St George SchoolNyumbar tailored their program for 4 classes of Preschoolers. Dez and Isaac captivated children with their knowledge and resources that had children eager to engage, contribute and participate in discussions. Children had questions for the team and were asking when they could visit next. Parents also provided positive feedback on the session. The team curated a beautiful mural that represents our Preschool, students, teachers and the community. This now hangs in our Reception to welcome all families and staff! We can’t wait to have the team visit again.
Classroom Teacher, Redlands House PreschoolAbsolutely brilliant! We loved having Nyumbar at Redlands House Preschool for programs with our students. Deslyn and Isaac were engaging, age appropriate and flexible. They children loved the stories and activities and were super excited to hear Isaac play the didgeridoo. Our staff found the professional development very informative and helpful. We look forward to welcoming them back to Redlands soon.
Director of Redlands House PreschoolNyumbar designed and hand painted a beautiful mural that reflects the natural beauty of our school’s local area. Dez and Isaac are fantastic educators who expertly included all 400 students in the painting process and taught them the meaning behind the mural. We are thrilled with the final product. It was a really special learning experience that the students will always remember.
Classroom Teacher, Normanhurst Public SchoolClassroom Teacher/ Aboriginal Education Coordinator, Coniston Public SchoolConiston students and staff enjoyed the Nyumbar Nghari dance program and the day’s schedule ran smoothly. Dez and Isaac were attentive to student needs and worked well with all groups. Our students provided positive feedback and gained cultural knowledge as it was so well presented to them. The farewell dance was a great way to end the day’s program.
